Biography:
Oishi had never focused on tennis in primary school – he was more interested in swimming. It was not until he met Tezuka that they decided to join the Seigaku tennis club together. Within a few days of being in club together, when Tezuka had proved his merits as a tennis player, they made a promise that they would lead Seigaku to Nationals together when it came their turn to be on top of the club. After Tezuka’s injury, when Tezuka threatened to leave the club, Oishi threatened to do the same in an effort to keep their promise. Yamato backed him up, and together they convinced Tezuka to stay in the club.
Oishi’s second run-in at the club was with Kikumaru Eiji – Eiji was jealous of the fact that someone “like Oishi” who was meek and easy to discourage was chosen to go to the newcomers tournament to represent Seigaku in doubles. Eiji challenged Oishi to a match, and lost when Oishi pulled out his trump card: Moon Volley. After the match, they agreed to be doubles partners – to go all the way to the top, together. This is not to say that their partnership is not horribly precarious, nonetheless.
In primary school, Oishi kept mostly to himself in classes – he did not have many friends and was not that popular until he met Tezuka. He follows Tezuka loyally in all he does. Similarly, Oishi hangs on every word their captain says as though it is law. Despite his apparently meek demeanor, Oishi is actually fierce at heart, determined and driven. He has been known to have a hair-trigger temper and can sometimes be distinctly grumpy, but he honestly cares deeply for his friends and would do just about anything for a friend in need.
